Then and Now

Then I smiled and 
you said it's because I'm soon gone,
but I knew the Truth was distant, 
I was smiling for the dawn.

Now I'm far beyond and 
you are long gone a memory to haunt,
just me alone in the dark 
with Truth smiling grim and gaunt.
