One more week of travel adventures and then I will be returning to Chicago for a new chapter in my life. I am close to $2000 under budget which helps to extend my time away from working a poor paying job, I have 16 months of living expenses in savings so I plan to reacquaint myself with Chicago for a few months doing what I have done these past four months, walking, running, making pictures, reading. One thing I won't be doing much of is chess, which was a large part of my life before I left on my SE Asian journey, so I am looking forward to spending the extra time I will have on something new, what it will be I am not sure.
Today instead of playing chess I wandered around District 1, going west of Notre Dame to Le Van Tam Park, a nice place for a stroll with big trees and some various statuary. On the way back I became lost and I enjoyed the feeling of wandering unknown streets in unknown directions. As I was looking for some kind of familiar landmark I recalled a recurring dream I have had over the years of wandering lost in a foreign city and I realized Saigon was accurately depicted in my dreams. I spotted in the distance the twin spires of Notre Dame and I ended up on the north side where the old post office building is so I stopped inside and saw tourists snapping pictures, buying trinkets and writing postcards.
