Day 69

Slow day, got up late due to a fitful sleep caused by the heat rash. Walked to Mertasari Beach and did a few exercises, stopped at the market, made pasta and then napped. The only time the rash causes discomfort is in the evenings, so my best sleep comes when I nap in the afternoon. So far there is no indication that the rash is healing, it is hanging around looking as if it plans to stay on my arms and legs indefinitely. I can only hope that will not be the case.

Finished reading the short stories by Somerset Maugham, very impressive, Maugham is one of the best writers that I have crossed paths with. In one sense I have nothing whatever in common with the narrator of his stories, as he usually appears to be well connected, good looking, famous, and wealthy, in other words, a winner. I contrast that with a writer such as Bukowski, who worked a common job, was homely, and not until his later years did he overcome poverty and obscurity, a loser. As for me, I have all of the qualities of the loser, with the added bonus of having no special talents, a loser's loser. Regardless, there is a quality to Maugham's writing that even losers can't help but to learn a few things about life and it's intricate schemes and mysteries.

I Plan on skipping the morning run tomorrow so that I can watch the superbowl at 7:30am. Maybe I will run in the evening.
